Add style to your gym routine with this guide to men’s workout clothes

When it comes to workout clothes, it can be difficult to find clothes that have a balance of substance. and style. Some sportswear forgo fashion in the name of functionality, while other fitness equipment is all aesthetic without any comfort. But it is possible to have the best of both worlds!

In this episode of In The Know’s The Guide, host Jovel Roystan chats with stylist and model Kadeem Johnson (@kjohn_lasoul) about how to keep your workout style on point in this guide to men’s fitness clothing.

“The first thing to think about is fitness,” Roystan says. “Some guys like things a little too big and loose,” he explains, pulling out an ASOS long-sleeved t-shirt. “Other guys maybe like the very minimal fabric,” he says, holding up an ASOS lace-up vest.

Roystan also notes that it’s important to think about fabric when it comes to workout gear. “You want slightly stretchy items that will keep you comfortable and breathable throughout the workout,” he explains.

Beyond the fabric, Roystan insists on indulging in colors and prints. It shows a green Lululemon short sleeve t-shirt and printed ASOS training shorts.

Johnson is also a big fan of the mix and match approach. “I don’t usually do sets,” explains the stylist. “I’ll wear a gray shirt with black shorts. It still makes sense, but I mix the colors.

It’s also important to think about layering workout clothes, especially if you plan to step straight out of the gym. Roystan dons this ASOS strength training track jacket for your journey from the gym to the restaurant.

Now, to find out what to carry all your gym equipment. When it comes to gym essentials like a gym bag, towel, and water bottle, “An easy way to keep things looking good is to have a consistent color scheme,” Roystan explains.

Roystan leans towards this Nike Brasilia duffel bag in black, but suggests “do your thing” when it comes to your color preference.

Of course, sneakers are perhaps the most important part of any gym fit. “You have to have the right style for whatever you’re going to do because that can mean the difference between effective training and a potential injury,” Roystan explains.

For example, if you are a runner, you will need a shoe with more cushion. Roystan opts for the Nike React Infinity Run Flyknit for his favorite pair.

Whatever your style, the most important thing when it comes to workout clothes is to make sure that you feel comfortable and secure in what you are wearing.
