Constancy “Connie” Jacques Preston, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 10, 2021, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren.
Connie was born July 2, 1930 in Saranac Lake to Donald and Charlotte Wilson Jacques. She was the oldest of seven children and was busy helping her siblings who she said always got into trouble. She graduated from Lake Placid High School, Class of 1948. Connie married Oren Preston on November 7, 1953. They lived 61 wonderful years together until Oren died in 2014. She was employed by New York City. Telephone Company, Dunn’s Gift Shop and as Mrs. Hilda Taylor’s companion until she found her favorite job – caring for babies in the nursery at Lake Placid Community Daycare. There she spent over 10 years cradling and loving babies.
Connie has been active in her community, as president of the Lake Placid High School Alumni Association, as a volunteer for the Pee Wee Association, and as District Assistant Grand Matron of the Order of the ‘Eastern Star. She was a life member of the Adirondack Community Church where she held many positions. Connie was sure to end up in the church kitchen for countless chicken and cookie dinners. In 1998, Connie and Oren traveled to the Appalachians to volunteer at the Red Bird Mission. With seven children, there were always school plays, bake sales, field trips and events to keep her busy. Above all, Connie was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She loved making big holiday meals and little after-school snacks for those who showed up. She never missed a game or a concert. His grandchildren were lucky enough to have him at graduation and weddings. She loved taking care of their Greenwood Street home and its hydrangeas. Connie never objected to doing all the laundry the kids and grandchildren brought home. She really loved ironing! The door was still open and the coffee and cookies still ready.
Connie’s loving family includes children Linda Jones, Rhonda, Steve and Linda, Randy, Oren (OB) and Kristin, Alyson and Junior Thompson, as well as Juli and John Frost-Gonzales.
Connie loved her role as grandmother and great-grandmother to Paul and Brooke Jones and their children Charlotte, Virginia Francis and Teddy; Andrew and Hina Jones and their daughter Aiza; Lindsay and Zach Hansen and their children Sydney and Henry; Kate and Katie DiFranco Preston, Tim; Ryan, Logan and daughter Heavenleigh, Keegan and Michelle; Kyle, Oren; Ayla, Haile, Nzoni and Makeda Thompson; Ashley, Ian and Jaclyn Frost.
