Jersey Numbers, Sizes and Weights for Tennessee Newcomers

Tennessee released its updated spring football roster Tuesday morning before the Vols take the field to kick off their second spring under head coach Josh Heupel and its staff. The list, the first official since the end of the 2021 season, revealed the jersey numbers, heights and weights of Tennessee’s freshman class and other newcomers. Including four non-scholarship additions, the new Tennessee players consist of Dec. 13 signers of the 2022 recruiting class and one transfer.

The Vols signed 20 players during the early signing period and several of those players who would become first signed on joined the team for varying amounts of their on-campus practices for the Music City Bowl. All newcomers joined the program more formally in late January when Tennessee launched spring semester classes and off-season strength and conditioning training.

Tennessee’s 2022 recruiting class, which has eight players slated to join the program this summer, finished 17th in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.

Of the 14 fellow newcomers, 10 are expected to play on offense with a quartet each at wide receiver (Cameron Miller, Chas NimrodProspect Top247 Kaleb Webb and Marquarius White) and offensive line (Maurice Clipper Jr., Brian GrantProspect Top247 Addison Nichols and transfer to Florida Gerald Mincey). There is also one addition each at quarterback (hope Top247 Tayven Jackson) and running back (four-star justin williams). Defensive additions include defensive linemen West tire (Prospect Top247) and Jordan Phillipslinebacker Elie Herring and cornerback Desmond Williamsthe only junior college transfer among the group.

“You always want to keep adding things that will be foundational parts of your program as you move forward,” Heupel told GoVols247 earlier this month. “Fourteen guys who managed the transition to college football as well as any group I was around. It’s getting up and going to class. It is eating. He goes to the training room. It’s being on time for meetings, training on time and extremely tough competition. I love what they did the first seven weeks.

“As we move into the spring ball, I think for where they are in our program, they have a good understanding of what we’re going to do when we go out on the training ground. They’re going to make a lot of mistakes. How they react to these things will be critical to their continued growth. We sort of divide the spring ball into thirds – five first, five second, five third practices. As much as anything, I just want to see them continue to grow at day to day, taking practices, competing extremely hard and growing during these different segments of the spring ball.

“Talented group, physically gifted. What they have done in motion on the grass with us, it shows that there is talent there. I can’t wait to put some pads on and watch them play football.
