Metro Detroit Company Quickly Prints Jerseys For NFL Draft Players To Fit On Stage

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A Metro Detroit company will play a major role in the 2022 NFL Draft, but you won’t see them on stage in Las Vegas – they’ll be working behind it.

Workers at Stahls’, a company that specializes in pressing and materials to customize almost anything, will be working behind the scenes during this year’s NFL Draft to print jerseys for players moments after they’re selected by their new team.

Chances are you haven’t heard of Stahls’, but this family business, originally founded in Detroit, has contracts with every major American sports league: the NBA, MLB, NHL and NFL. .

“The company started in a Detroit garage, supplying letters and numbers — 90 years later, to 2022, and we’ve become the world’s largest manufacturer of apparel decorating materials and equipment” , said Brent Plawecki, COO of Stahls.

The company makes jerseys, t-shirts and more for everyone. You can see some of their processes in the video report above.

Even if you’ve heard of Stahls’, chances are you don’t know the role they play behind the scenes in the NFL Draft. Staff members only have moments from the time a player is chosen to have a shirt ready for them on stage.

The team says there are definitely some nerves due to the tight schedule, but they are still executing.

Vicki Nardini says there’s a lot of prep work in the upstream process, where team members cut all the pieces they’ll need for the event, calling it “highly organized chaos.” That chaos is multiplied this year, with 24 selections and 32 different NFL teams. So all the different colors, fonts, styles and all their combinations should be ready to use at all times.

“Basically, we’re provided with a list of names that will be drafted this year, and we cut the names using key transfer vinyl and twill in every possible combination,” Nardini said.

Stahls employees have no idea who is going to be picked by which team. So, for example, when the Los Angeles Rams drafted Jared Goff in 2016, they had less than two minutes to put the jersey together — and that’s how it will work for all 24 draft picks this year.

“When (the players) stand up on the stage, it actually looks like the shirt they’ll be wearing,” Nardini said. “All the prep work is done in the months leading up to the draft, so there’s a lot of work. Once there, we know we have to deliver. We’ve been doing it for 10 years now, and it all worked out. fine.

The 2022 draft isn’t the company’s first rodeo — they made the jerseys for the last few drafts.

It’s behind-the-scenes magic we’ve never seen, and it comes from a company right here in our community. So all the equipment needed for this year’s draft has been shipped from Metro Detroit to Las Vegas.

And also in Las Vegas this year, another Stahls production: In the NFL Draft Experience Zone, fans can instantly get personalized gear from Stahls’.

“They’re going to sell t-shirts with the project logo or their team logo, and then they’ll have the option to come to our tent and customize it on the spot,” Nardini said.

The 2022 NFL Draft will begin on the evening of Thursday, April 28. The Jacksonville Jaguars have the first pick, and the Detroit Lions have the second — and Stahls will do the jersey lettering for both.
