Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal made it mandatory for all officers and staff of the agency to be formally dressed in the office and said casual clothes like jeans and shoes sports will not be tolerated.
According to one order, the dress code for men will be formal shirts, pants and formal shoes. They are also required to come to the office clean shaven. CBI staff were asked to wear only sarees, suits, formal shirts and pants. “No jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, chappals, casual attire are allowed in the office,” said the order, of which HT saw a copy. He called on the heads of CBI branches across the country to ensure that these guidelines are strictly followed.

CBI officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, called it a balanced order and said every officer and staff member should always wear formal attire. “However, over the years people have started to wear casual clothes … like jeans and t-shirts and no one has stopped it. CBI officers must at least wear a collared shirt, a formal pants and shoes, ”one officer said on condition of anonymity.
People familiar with the developments have said that Jaiswal, who took over as the agency’s 33rd director last week, is likely to make important administrative changes to improve the efficiency of the CBI and improve its image.
