SMITH – The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will host an in-person public meeting with a virtual option on August 31 to discuss a potential remedial action plan for the Central Waste Inc. landfill at 12003 Oyster Road, Smith Township.
The plan focuses on managing impacts on groundwater.
Central Waste Landfill is a 42 acre facility that no longer accepts waste. The landfill is in the process of completing its closure activities.
If the plan is approved, groundwater samples will be taken and analyzed as part of the corrective actions.
A briefing will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Northeastern Ohio EPA district office, 2110 E. Aurora Road, Twinsburg, immediately followed by a hearing to accept public comment on the draft plan.
Ohio EPA staff will discuss the corrective action plan and answer questions. The public hearing will follow to accept oral and written testimony from residents.
Participants present in person may make verbal or written comments on the dossier regarding the proposed plan. Virtual participants can submit written comments.
Anyone planning to attend in person must bring photo ID and plan to wear a mask in the building.

The Ohio EPA will accept written comments on the proposed corrective action plan through September 7 (via the GoToWebinar app). Anyone can submit comments or request to be put on the mailing list for information.
